How To Clean a Barbecue Grill
I Should Clean My Barbecue Grill When? When it comes to cleaning a barbecue grill, there are two schools of thought. On one hand, some BBQ’ers say clean it right after you’re done Quing. On the hand, they say wait till the next time you fire up your grill. Whichever method you decide to use, the point is making sure you clean it! No one savors the moment of eating food served from a filthy grill. It’s simply not appetizing and not healthy.
Infrequent cleanings allows ashes to collect at the bottom of the grill and will eventually impede airflow; causing moisture to collect, which causes your grill to rust. With proper cleaning, your barbecue grill will give you years of enjoyable service. Now lets examine some of the well know ways true grillers clean their barbecue grills.
The Aluminum Foil Method Take a 24 inch long piece of aluminum foil, ball it up and vigorously rub it over cold grates. The next time you reheat your barbecue grill, it will burn off any remaining residue.
The Wire Brush Method With this method of cleaning a barbecue grill, there is no need for chemicals or cleaners. It’s real simple, leave the cleaning for the next time you barbecue. At that point, fire up the grill and while its empty, use one of the barbecue grill wire brushes, specially designed for cleaning grills. Your grates won’t get shiny clean, but between the brush and the fire the food build off will come of easily!
The Citrus Orange Method One griller says she cleans her barbecue grill by waiting until grill gets fairly hot. She then slices an orange in half and rubs it on the grill racks. Just remember, the grill is hot, so make sure that you wear fire resistant gloves.
The Woven Mesh Steel Scouring Pad Method This simplistic method of cleaning your barbecue grill produces astounding results. Using a woven mesh steel scouring pad and some elbow grease, scrub the grate clean and then wipe down with a damp towel after scouring.
The Easy Off Method If you haven’t cleaned your barbecue grill in a while and the grime has reached an all time high, don’t fret. This method will have your grill almost like new. Purchase some Easy Off Oven Cleaner and heavy-duty trash bags, spray both the grates and the inside of the grill, (Don’t spray the outside of any barbecue grill with Easy Off, it will more than likely damage the coating). Place the grates in a trash bag, tie it shut and give the Easy Off time to do its thing. Once the Easy Off has bubbled up, it literally rubs or sprays right off.
The Tin Foil Method Although we at Barbecue and Beans don’t recommend this method, some novices still use this barbecue grill clean up short cut. They cover the grill with tin foil. Yes the grates stay relatively clean, but the food ends up being fried and not grilled, and therefore doesn’t taste as good. People who use this method to clean their barbecue grill are better off cooking inside on the stove.
There you have it BBQ lovers, when it comes to cleaning your barbecue grill, choose the method that works for you!
